So Senator DeMented won’t attend. Boo freaking hoo. God (you know, the Rabid Right’s next-door buddy) forbid that the purity of the Republican Party should be tainted by actually including anyone who is not 100% in lockstep with its “leaders”.

You know, I actually heard from a Republican devotee at one point that it wasn’t clear who the constituency of the party is or what is really standing for. Some things seem consistent with most party loyalist - a general old fashioned/conservative temperament and favorability towards business or at least less regulation of business. Beyond that, there’s some serious anarchy going on there, comparably to the anarchy of the Democratic Party in the late 1960s.

DeMint bailing is just the latest symptom of the traditional socons at large bailing, and that I think has to do with forces entering CPAC that may see themselves as socon but don’t get that approval by the traditional socons, particularly GOProud and Muslims for America. And I think this might be in line with the conservative camp shifting shape in general, another sign of this being the outreach to the rightwing libertarians (deep, deep into even their most extreme regions) in the wake of Obama’s election in 2008.

One less turd in the soup, but a turd, all the same. He stands head-and-shoulders to many of the biggest and most inflammatory POS wingnuts out there. If I had to assign a moniker to DeMint, I’m safe going with “Epic POS.”
